Monastery of St. John the Divine, Patmos
During a 1984 trip to Yugoslavia, Italy, and Greece, I visited the Greek island of Patmos. After walking to the Monastery of St. John the Divine, I viewed the rock grotto where John lived and prayed when he cognized the Book of Revelations, and then returned to the monastery to take this photo.
The simplicity of the architecture, brilliant blue sky, bright sunlight, white walls, the ladder to the rooftop, and shadows combine to make this one of my best-selling photographs.
