Create Beauty Around You: Design, Vastu, Art, & Sacred Space Services

Create beauty around you! Beauty is a requirement in Vastu, a requirement for which I am grateful, since I'm an artist and very inspired and nourished by beauty. Creating beauty around you should be legally required, since it has such a positive impact on the world! I write about beauty quite a bit in my book Vastu: Transcendental Home Design in Harmony with Nature.  This is a personal Shiva altar in my home. It's a little corner of a bookcase on which I've installed a small Miriam Kasin watercolor painting from 1974 when I was on Vedic Studies Program in Europe with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. I added an empty organic perfume bottle with a sprig of dried hydrangea in an...

Misconceptions about Vastu

May 9, 2015 Misconceptions about Vastu, the Design System from Ancient India 1. Vastu is NOT the same as Feng Shui. In fact, it is thousands of years older and part of the origin of Feng Shui. Even many websites from India purporting to give Vastu knowledge are simply repackaging Feng Shui as Vastu. There is much wrong information about Vastu Shastra. To learn what Vastu really is, read this Vastu page on my website .  2. Mirrors are NOT used in Vastu as they are in Feng Shui.  Since Vastu is based on the laws of nature—in other words, the laws of physics— keep in mind that anything that goes into a mirror bounces back to the “sender” of the image...

The Real Feng Shui

A client suggested I write a blog post on Vastu as the real Feng Shui. What does that actually mean, the real Feng Shui? Both Vastu and Feng Shui are Asian traditions of sacred space and thousands of years old—although they function as entirely different bodies of knowledge. Why would Vastu be the real Feng Shui? My client called Vastu the real Feng Shui because of the profound benefits she experienced from applying my Vastu design consultation recommendations to her living space. It truly became a more conscious home.  In spite of the value and wide recognition of Feng Shui and the dozens of Feng Shui books that have been available for many years, it’s not the original or the most potent...

Vastu, the Yoga of Design

Vastu is our planet’s most ancient system of design and architecture from India’s Vedic tradition. Its guidelines are the laws of nature, and it honors the environment. It requires natural materials and beauty. I’ve been doing Vastu consultations for homes, businesses, and gardens in the US and internationally since 1999. For my first Vastu blog post, I thought a quick introduction to this sacred space design knowledge was the right way to start. My Vastu book Vastu: Transcendental Home Design in Harmony with Nature was published in 2007; it’s currently out of print while I choose a new publisher to keep this world wisdom tradition’s knowledge available. I include a PDF file of the full book with all its color illustrations and...
