a workshop with sacred artist Mavis Gewant
Students will explore 4 different energies of the Divine Mother: Durga, Saraswati, Kali and Lakshmi, our strength, creativity, knowledge, transformation and prosperity. By constructing her yantra and chanting her mantra, students will deepen their understanding and their devotion to the Mother.
Yantras are made up of complex geometric elements that create a sacred diagram, which is used to awaken the energy of various deities and planets and to make contact with one's inner being. Students will learn to construct and paint traditional yantras in the Tantric tradition of Dada Harish Johari, selecting a deity specific to their present needs and purpose. They will also learn the corresponding mantra. Focus will be on inner process in an atmosphere of concentration, devotion and introspection.
No previous art experience is necessary.
Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday, 10-5, in Santa Fe, NM. Break between 1 and 2 for lunch and walk in nature.
MATERIALS: Participants must choose at the time of registration to either bring their own art materials as listed below OR purchase the $15 materials fee package, in which case Mavis will bring your needed art supplies for you.

1 sheet of good quality 140# cold pressed watercolor paper
compass
ruler
2h pencil
eraser recommended: white Staedtler Mars plastic erasers.
mixing tray
board to lean on (could be cardboard) or you can use our tables
container for water
set of gouache paints (Reeves: inexpensive, Winsor Newton: high end, also Holbein artists' gouache such as their 12 color set of 5ml tubes) plus gold (such as Holbein pearl gold or rich gold & silver (such as Holbein silver), and probably an extra tube of white
