Students will learn to construct and paint traditional yantras in the Tantric tradition of Dada Harish Johari, selecting a deity specific to their present needs and purpose. Take yantra painting workshops two weekends in a row for a discounted rate of $260 if you register by October 15.
For thousands of years tantric seers have observed the powerful influence of the planets on the human spirit. Indian astrology, has long undersood that while the energy released by the orbiting planets affects our lives, it is also an energy that can be directed and harnessed to improve our spiritual, mental, and physical well being.
The 9 planet yantras, beautiful geometric images that utilize specific colors and forms, when meditated upon, instill quietness in the mind, allowing it to positively channel the power of planets represented by each yantra. In this workshop, participants will construct and paint a yantra and will learn a mantra, containing bidj (bija) sounds, which will encourage optimim receptivity to the energies of each planet.
A basic overview of Indian numerology will be covered to help students have a better understanding of the qualities of the planets and how to know the influence of the numbers and planets on one’s life.
The sacred art taught by Mavis Gewant cultivates inner silence and attunes one with the energy and essence of the divine aspect that is being evoked. No previous art experience is necessary. Focus is on inner process in an atmosphere of introspection and devotion. Under close guidance participants paint yantras learning the corresponding mantra and chanting silently as the painting process unfolds.

Vastu Shastra lecture presented by Sherri Silverman, Ph.D. Thursday, October 19, 2006, 7:00 pm, Vista Grande Public Library in Eldorado, Santa Fe, NM
Vastu is the system of design, architecture, and sacred space that originated over 10,000 years ago in India. Vastu requires beauty and natural materials, and it honors nature and the five elements of earth, air, fire, water, and space. Vastu guidelines, when used for new construction, utilize subtle laws of nature to transform spaces into "living organisms" that totally support and nourish the inhabitants. Sherri will discuss how she uses Vastu guidelines and related knowledge from India's Vedic tradition to bring greater beauty, functionality, harmony, tranquility, and abundance to existing spaces. This talk covers Vastu's history, how it differs from Feng Shui, and practical applications for homes, gardens, and businesses.
